I bought a new BMX today. Then drew this picture to celebrate. Actually, no, I went riding to celebrate, then drew this picture in hope of making back some of the money i spent on the bike.

Future Primitive

I started skateboarding in the early 90’s. The local suburban video store only had two skateboarding movies: Future Primitive and The Search For Animal Chin. Both films featured the Bones Brigade. Man, i must have borrowed those videos a hundred times. That’s still my favourite era of skateboarding. I could stare for ages at those ads in Thrasher magazine with all the thumbnail photos of skateboards and drool over the awesomeness of the graphics. I tried to draw the Powell skull logo on my school diary a bunch of times but it was too difficult so i stuck to drawing the Vans logo instead – that one was easy. I guess skating was a big contributing factor to me getting into drawing and art as kid, not to mention a bunch of bad music. I spent today thinking about these things and listening to The Adolescents while drawing this picture. I really haven’t changed much at all.Future-Primitive

Arrested Development

I’ve been doing a bunch of drawings lately. But i keep getting distracted and can’t seem to finish any of them. Story of my life really.

I blame my housemate for owning the boxset of Arrested Development, because lord knows i’ve spent way too much time on the couch lately watching that awesomeness.

In other news, my exhibition, One Last Late Night, is opening at Lamington Drive Gallery here in Melbourne in a months time (Friday 21st of August). I’ll keep you posted with all the details. In the meantime, i’ll be posting loads of drawings and sketches as opposed to finished pieces so I have some brand new, never seen before illustrations for my show. Providing i can get off the couch and away from Arrested Development that is…unfinished

Shop! Shop!

2009 July 6
by riklee

I have an Etsy shop. Finally.

There’s a selection of limited edition Giclee prints for sale at the shop.

Giclee prints are printed by Master Printer Brian Gilkes at Pharos Editions, St Andrews Victoria. Editions are printed in collaboration with original artist spec on Museo Max (a deluxe heavy weight 300 gsm , cream coloured, slightly textured stock). Each print is signed, numbered and embossed with Pharos Editions chop. The prints are of exceptional quality and look like original illustrations.

If there’s a particular artwork of mine you’re after that isn’t featured on the shop, let me know and i’ll do my best to make it available for you.

Click on the Shop link at the top of the page to check it out.

Illustration Friday – “Drift”

2009 June 25
by riklee

Illustration Friday is a weekly  illustration challenge. A topic is posted every Friday at  http://www.illustrationfriday.com/ and then participants have all week to come up with their own interpretation.

Topics are picked each week from a list of suggestion that have been emailed by participants. This weeks topic is ‘drift’.

It’s the first time i’m participated in Illustration Friday but i plan to do so on a fairly regular basis from now on. This is an illustration of my friend Liz. I drew it awhile ago but it fits the topic so i figured i’d run with it.Illustration-Friday
